Daft as a Brush
Daft as a Brush
At Canning Street, we recognise our responsibility to the wider community and involve ourselves in many charities and local events.
Our head Dinner Lady, Mrs Ann Garrett, has helped us play a big part in supporting a fantastic local charity in the last year. Daft as a Brush is a Newcastle-based charity which transports cancer patients to and from their appointments. Their specially equipped ambulances to vital work for people going through difficult times. Mrs Garrett got to know the charity when they supported her and her husband through their own difficult time. Keen to pay back their kindness, Mrs Garrett and her friend carried out a number of fund raising events and were able to buy a brand new ambulance for the charity.
Daft as a Brush were kind enough to allow Canning Street Primary School to sponsor their new addition! Our children designed artwork for the new vehicle, names the West End Magpie, and some were selected to adorn the new ambulance. The children have loved seeing the vehicle in the community and on the school grounds and we all feel very proud to be part of something that's doing such fantastic work in the community.
